Eye Condition Treatment
Care for an eye condition begins with an evaluation of symptoms and eye health to understand what may be causing a problem. Westminster Eye Care Associates evaluates eye concerns for patients in Providence. Call the office to describe your symptoms and arrange appropriate care; do not wait for an online appointment for urgent concerns.
Optometrists are trained to diagnose and manage a range of eye conditions beyond routine vision correction — from infections and allergies to changes in the front structures of the eye.

Optometrists and Eye Conditions
Optometrists are licensed to diagnose and manage many eye conditions, including infections, inflammatory conditions, allergic reactions, and other concerns affecting the comfort and health of your eyes. Our doctors have training and residency experience in ocular disease management.
Not every eye condition requires a visit to a medical specialist or an emergency room. Contacting our office when you notice a new concern allows us to help direct you to the most appropriate level of care.
Broad Categories of Conditions We May Evaluate
The specific conditions we evaluate and manage span several broad categories, including:
- Infections: such as bacterial, viral, or other forms of conjunctivitis (pink eye)
- Allergic reactions: affecting the eyes and surrounding tissues
- Inflammatory conditions: affecting the front surface or internal structures of the eye
- Eyelid concerns: such as styes, blepharitis, and chalazia
- Corneal concerns: including abrasions, erosions, and other surface irregularities
- Vision changes: that may be related to an underlying eye health issue
When Referral or Co-Management Is Needed
Some conditions are best managed in coordination with or by an ophthalmologist or other specialist. When a referral is in your best interest, we will communicate this clearly and, where possible, assist with coordinating that care.
Our goal is to ensure you receive the appropriate level of care — whether that is management within our office or a referral to a specialist.
When to Seek Urgent Care
Some symptoms warrant prompt evaluation. If you are experiencing any of the following, call our office as soon as possible:
- Sudden redness, pain, or significant swelling
- Discharge that appears to be worsening
- New or significant changes in vision
- A foreign body sensation that does not resolve
- Contact lens discomfort that persists after removing the lens
